Harness and Lanyard Best Practices

  • Require at least a 3 point harness if you are more than 6 feet off the ground (no harness no climb)
  • 5 Point Harness recommended.
    • 1 Dorsal point
    • 1 Chest point
    • 3 Waist points
  • Inspection of harness.
    • Self-inspection prior to use every day of your personal harness.
    • Employer will inspect their harnesses prior to each use.
  • Lanyard
    • Self-inspection prior to use every day of your personal lanyard.
    • Employer will inspect their lanyards prior to each use.
    • Double lanyard required.
    • Large hooks or tie back Lanyard recommended.
  • Positioning Straps           
    • Shall comply with OSHA standards listed below.
  • What you can use each point for:
    • Chest & Dorsal Point with fall arrest.
    • Chest Point only for ASAP rope grab.
    • 3 Points on waist are for positioning only.

Check all equipment for ANSI Standard stamp or sticker.
